Our Engineering team is seeking a Characterization Engineer. As a member of our Hardware Platforms & Accessories team, you would be responsible for providing test solutions to validate our radio hardware before it is released to production. This includes devising tests which prove that our designs meet all specifications and goals, coding automation for efficient test execution, performing the tests, and crunching the data for results presentation. You would work hand in hand with our design team to understand all aspects of digital, analog, and RF hardware and software for our complex radio systems. Your feedback to the design team will drive designs that facilitate better testability and yield.

The essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Develops test solutions to validate system and module level requirements and specifications.
  • Tests digital, analog, RF and power circuits
  • Generates required design documentation for test procedures and
  • Validates and debugs product performance through test and analysis at the component, module and system level.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Develops relationships with team members built on trust and respect.
  • Design, maintain, and deploy an automated scripting environment and test sequencer.
  • Create and document programming API’s to facilitate the rapid development of automated tests.
  • Create user interfaces that enable easy access to device capabilities.
  • Develop, document, and execute automated test scripts that characterize key performance parameters.
  • Perform detailed data analysis to diagnose and identify performance related issues.
  • Contribute to process improvement and planning of the ATE Test Team.
  • Support systems engineering of TrellisWare proprietary technologies.
  • Programming in VB.NET, C#, and Python in a product development environment.
  • Test infrastructure development to include programming API’s, user interfaces, data collection, and data post processing.
  • Operating and programming test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, radio emulators, network analyzers, RF switch matrixes, and multimeters.
  • Automated test case design and execution.
  • The process involved in generating a test plan from engineering designs and subsequently developing and supporting a system of software test code for units under test, including the development of a test database
  • Develops relationships with team members built on trust and respect.

Education and work experience requirements are:

  • BSEE, BSCS, BS Physics, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in test and measurement.

To be considered for this position, you would need to meet, at a minimum, the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed here:

  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience writing code in Python/C/C++ or common scripting languages to control test and measurement equipment, implement algorithms and process data.
  • Common embedded Linux development tools (i.e. compilers, linkers and debuggers) and Linux subsystems.
  • Wireless telecommunications and cellular radio systems standards (FDMA,TDMA).
  • Understanding of common measurements related to digital communication systems: BLER, EVM, Bathtub Curves, Channel simulations.
  • Understanding of common measurements related to RF Receive and Transmit paths: Gain, Return Loss, Noise Figure, Sensitivity, RF Power, Spectral Emissions, IP3, IP2, Phase Noise.
  • Oral and Written Communication Skills, Detailed Oriented, Analytical, Problem Solving, Strong Planning and Organizing.
  • Ability to process large amounts of data and condense it into easy to understand summaries.
  • Strong collaborative drive and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong initiative, proactive work ethic and prioritization skills.
  • Sound judgement and analytical problem-solving skills.

TrellisWare Technologies pays competitively according to the market in an individual's geographic location, in addition to their qualifications and experience. The posted range is annually and for individuals located in the San Diego, CA area.

San Diego, California Pay Range
$105,000$165,000 USD
