Senior Design Engineer - Mixed Signal IC Design Architect
Location: Whiteley, Hampshire (Southampton Area, UK)
Located in Whiteley, one of the South Coast's leading technology hubs, our office is easily accessible from Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester, Fareham and surrounding areas.
About the Role
Join Microchip's Human Machine Interface Division (HMID), the global centre of excellence behind industry-leading maXTouch® capacitive sensing technology.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will help shape the next generation of touch controllers and HMI solutions used in automotive, industrial, and consumer products worldwide. Working within a highly collaborative R&D environment, you'll influence architecture decisions, solve complex technical challenges, and see your innovations progress from concept through to silicon validation.
Based at our Whiteley office between Southampton and Portsmouth, you'll join a highly skilled engineering team with significant technical ownership and the opportunity to work across hardware, firmware, and system-level design. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys tackling complex technical problems and wants to make a direct impact on products used by millions of people around the world.
What You'll Be Doing
Define and optimise capacitive sensing architectures and acquisition strategies
Work with the design team to define and verify RTL using Verilog/SystemVerilog
Develop high-performance embedded software for sensing and signal-processing functions
Drive silicon bring-up, debugging and validation activities
Solve complex system-level challenges across analog, digital and firmware domains
Collaborate with global engineering teams to deliver innovative HMI solutions
Requirements/Qualifications:
Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Physics or a related discipline
5+ years’ experience in digital or mixed-signal IC design and development
Strong RTL design skills using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog
Embedded software development experience in C/C++
Solid understanding of microcontroller architectures and embedded systems
Experience using Python, MATLAB or similar tools for modelling, automation or data analysis
Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
Experience with ARM, PIC or similar embedded MCU platforms
Knowledge of capacitive touch sensing technologies
Exposure to automotive or functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 or Automotive SPICE
Familiarity with display technologies including OLED or micro-LED
