We are seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Software Test Engineer to provide technical leadership for validating embedded software and system behavior across current and future products. This hands-on senior IC role will lead system-level test strategies, build automated test coverage, debug complex issues across hardware and software boundaries, and influence validation practices in collaboration with Firmware, Driver, Systems, and Product teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead validation efforts for complex programs and develop and execute windows audio driver system test plans covering functional, stress, endurance, negative, regression, and system integration validation.
- Create, maintain, and improve manual and automated tests for embedded software and systems.
- Validate software on EVT and DVT devices and support testing through product development and release milestones.
- Develop test scripts and tools using Python, shell, C, C++, or similar languages.
- Integrate automated tests into continuous integration environments to improve coverage, efficiency, and release confidence.
- Reproduce, isolate, debug, and document issues across firmware, drivers, operating systems, hardware, and system interfaces.
- Partner with Firmware, Driver, Systems, Product, and other cross-functional teams to define coverage, triage defects, and drive issues to resolution.
- Analyze test results and communicate quality status, risks, and recommendations in project reviews.
- Set up and use lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers, to measure system behavior and debug issues.
- Drive improvements in test processes, infrastructure, automation frameworks, and validation methodology; provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers as appropriate.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; or MS with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience validating embedded software on EVT and DVT devices.
- Solid understanding of embedded systems, including general-purpose operating systems such as Windows or Linux and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Experience working with a variety of MCU, DSP, or other embedded processor architectures.
- Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages, such as Python, shell, C, or C++.
- Understanding of software testing, test design, defect isolation, and test automation principles.
- Experience developing system-level test plans and executing structured validation activities.
- Demonstrated ability to own complex validation problems, influence technical decisions, and communicate clearly with cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Experience with automated test frameworks, hardware/software integration testing, or continuous integration systems such as Jenkins.
- Experience with Jira, Git or SVN, and software defect-management workflows.
- Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile/Scrum development practices.
- Experience testing firmware, drivers, device software, or embedded applications.
- Experience with cross-functional, geographically distributed, or offshore engineering teams.
- Experience analyzing logs, traces, protocol traffic, or system-level performance data.
- Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers for measurement and debugging.
- Experience working with audio, mixed-signal, semiconductor, or consumer electronics products.
